I simply adore this early shirt. Can't you just picture some little girl with her needle and thread making this shirt for her beloved doll? It would be wonderful worn by a primitive cloth doll or paper mache doll.
The material is brown gingham trimmed in lace around the neckline and the waistband is made of a lighter muslin fabric. The entire piece is handstitched. It measures 9" long shoulder to hem, 8" neck to hem, 8" shoulder to shoulder and the sleeves are 4" long.
It's in good condition for the age of this piece. The colors have softened with age and the lace trim is a bit ragged. The stitches are large and uneven, but that just makes it more wonderful in my opinion. It's a sweet, early piece and would look perfect on any early doll.
