I truly love this wonderful antique winter ensemble. I've never had a french Bebe large enough to wear it so it is being modeled by my 28" Kestner 214. She is just a model and is not included in this lot, but is being offered separately.
This set was found together at an estate sale. Because the colors of each piece match exactly, and because the pieces were found together, I believe they are a set and have always been together.
The outfit consists of a coat, bonnet and shoes. The material of the coat and bonnet is a chocolate brown wool with black curly mohair trim around the collar and brim of the bonnet. The hat is in very good condition except that the original silk ribbon ties are nearly gone, but the original copper colored ribbon rosettes on either side are in excellent condition. The coat has some moth holes as can be seen in my photos. The larger one in the back could be repaired and the small ones in front could be patched if you could find matching wool fabric. The black braided closures are faux closures. The coat actually snaps closed down the front. The sleeves are lined with ivory silk and the silk is shattering. The bonnet measures 7.5" top to bottom and 5.5" front to back. The jacket measures 18" long neck to hem, the sleeves are 9" long and across the chest is 10.5".
The shoes are just beautiful and are marked on the sole with a number 6 and the letters C.P. above and M.R.R.J.r with a line under the r. These letters are in an oval. they are black with rust stitching around the seams and the ribbon rosettes match the rosettes on the hat. They even have their original ribbon ties. They measure 4" long and 1.75" across the ball of the foot. They have leather uppers and soles. There is minor wear along the toes near the sole.
You rarely find these wonderful sets of clothing in their entirety, and even with the condition issues of the coat, it's truly a fabulous ensemble!
