This amazing porcelain shoe vase features the head study of a handsome bulldog framed in sea shell looking raised decoration. It also has three pretty raised white flowers one on the toe and one on each side. It measures 6 1/2 inches long by 3 inches tall and has a crown with shield marked Germany and the numbers 33 in gold stamp. Condition is wonderful with no cracks, chips or crazing and just so unique. A spill vase is a small vase or wall-hanging vase for containing splints, spills, and tapers for transferring fire, for example to light a candle or pipe from a lit fire. From the documentary record, they probably date back to the 15th century, though the heyday of specially made vases is the 19th century.
