Rarely seen is this exceptional art nouveau expanding book rack made by Judd Company of CT. The end pieces are made of cast iron with a beautiful verdigris finish and brass highlights and the sliding bars are brass. Each end piece features two handsome Dachshund dogs in raised relief one wearing a buckle collar and the other a chain collar and measures 5 x 4 1/2 inches. You can see the model number 9780 on the backside and it expands from 8 inches closed to 15 inches opened. It is a handsome example of the Judd Company of New Britain, Connecticut’s beautiful craftsmanship and style. Founded in 1833 as a harness manufacturer, it would not be until the early 1900’s the Judd Co. would begin to produce fine quality castings in brass, bronze and iron.
