This wonderfully animated vintage striker lighter was catalogued as the “Running Bulldog” and was made in 1937. It doubles as a pipe holder and measures 4 x 4 inches. It has a beautiful copper plate finish over base metal, a striker plate on the base, and is wearing a nice studded collar. It is in good condition with just some normal age darkening to the finish in different areas including inside the ears and the pipe rest area. The right ear has a slightly rough feel to one edge and the left ear has two small creases to the finish on the inside of ear tip. Left ear also has a fleabite nick to ear edge and lighter has polish residue in some creases which can be removed. There is some tape residue on the bottom. This lighter is not often seen and came out of a private collection. The Ronson Company started in the 1890's in Newark, NJ as the "Art Metal Works Company". In the beginning, the company designed a number of decorative products for example trophies, figurines, bookends, table lamps, incense burners, and various home related objects. It wasn't until 1923 that the founder Louis V. Aronson created his very first lighter and also got it patented.
