Antique French Rouen Faience inkwell, pen rest or encrier with the Emile Fourmaintraux mark on bottom. It is 4.5" square x 2" high. The design and colors with the pale blue underglaze are typical of the "Old Rouen"pieces.
This is in very good condition. There are no chips or cracks other than typical wear on the edges which is consistent with it's age. There is an 1/8th" ,very old chip on the underneath.
This is a lovely item to have on one's desk or part of a table-scape on a table, you could also use it on a vanity and put small brushes in it.
