A beautifully made antique Georgian mourning brooch ca. 1835.
The brooch is made of yellow gold (tested as 15K), the front has black enamel background set with an adorable silver Forget Me Not flower that's loaded with genuine and sparkling rose cut diamonds.
The back has a crystal covered locket that may once hold a locket of hair but is now empty. I believe it can be opened to put in your own picture or memorabilia but I didn't try it.
The back also has "In Remembrance Of May 5th, 1856" inscribed, which is added later, the brooch itself is definitely of Georgian era.
The pieces still retains its original T-C clasp, with the pin extends 3/8" of the body. The safety chain/pin is possibly late replacement. Measures 7/8" by 5/8" excludes the pin back, weight 5g.
