This is one of the most unusual and most beautifully carved cameos we've handled and I'm frankly reluctant to let her go. It is believed that the subject is Thalia, a classic Greek Mythological figure, one of the Three Graces, the Muse of comedy. Her fancy hair was meticulously done with a theater mask of an old man worn to her forehead, her gown and her breasts are artfully yet realistically depicted, she also holds a long stick near her shoulder. A rare piece from a skillful and well trained old master.
Set in a silver (tested) frame to be worn as a brooch, the T-C pin back could use an adjustment but is functioning well as is.
Measures approx. 1-5/8 inches by 1-1/8 inches and 1/2 inches high, weighs 12.1 grams.
