For those of you veteran collectors, Stuart Crystals are the Holy Grail of antique jewelry collecting and are among the most sought after pre Georgian 17th century treasures.
During the late 1600's to early 1700's, faceted rock crystal with gold wire of initials or monograms (known as "ciphers"), a lock of hair, skulls, or sometimes more complicated designs were briefly in fashion. They were usually made into a slide, a pendant, or a pair of cufflinks, just like this pair!
This is a wonderful example of the hand cut rock crystals in their original rubbed over silver setting, they have pink foil closed back with tiny initials elaborately done in impossibly fine gold wire.
In excellent all original condition except some discoloration on the pink foil, the hand cut crystal is super bright, the cipher gold wires are in very good condition, the silver back has a couple of tiny ding, the figure 8 connectors are also in good condition.
Measures approx. 3/4” long, each crystal measures approx. 3/8” or 9mm square, collectively measures approx. 4 grams.
