Incredible Vintage Ladies Fedora
Out of this world ladies felt fedora, World War II era! The 1940's saw an explosion in headwear design. Many of the materials common to hat-making never made it onto the rationing list, so 1940's milliners continued to flourish when many other types of couture fell to the wayside. Fashionable women of that era discovered that they could reinvent their whole look, with the simple addition of a bold headpiece and the 1940's literally became the hey-day of headwear, for ladies worldwide! This particular example is a classic, hunter-green, women's fedora, with the gorgeous addition of tall pheasant tail feathers and iridescent breast feathers on a traditional grosgrain ribbon. There is also a small brass hat pin, cast in the form of a similar hat, at the base of the feathers. The hat has a lovely, asymmetrical shape that folds up on one side and swoops down on the other, to simultaneously both highlight and hide opposite sides of the face. Pure Gorgeousness!
This rare hat was obviously handmade by an accomplished milliner from that era, although there are no tags present. The material is a soft felt, with grosgrain details. It is in EXCELLENT vintage condition. No major flaws to note. Sizewise, it fits my 22" circumference head perfectly, with maybe a smidge of extra room. But please pay special attention to the measurements below and compare them to similar hat of your own, to ensure a perfect fit.
Inner circumference 22" Brim Length, front to back->13" Brim Width, side to side-> 11.5" Approx Height->7"
This hat is a lovely example from days gone by. So classic, retro, and still 100% Rockable today... and I only have one, so if you love it, don't let it get away! It is beyond incredible! c. 1940
