Luke or Luca Razza was a jewelry designer who started in business in the 1950s. By the 1970s, he was well established as a designer and developed a method of making jewelry with combined materials of plastic resin and metal. This whimsical panda is a perfect, and somewhat unusual example of those designs.
The panda's head is composed of molded white resin. The panda's eyes have been molded around the eyes, which are actually metal. The eyes have been accented with black enamel, both on the resin and the metal. They eyes themselves are gold metal beads. The nose has also been accented with black enamel. The ears are gold tone metal, accented with black enamel and the panda's ruffled collar is also gold tone metal.
The piece is in wonderful condition. The head has a little bit of play on the metal back, but that is the way it was made. There is a tiny bit of soiling on the face. The clasp is in perfect working order, but the pin stem has a slight bend. There are no clip or cracks in the enamel. It is signed with the copyright symbol and the name, Razza. This would have been made sometime in the early 1970s.
It measures approximately 1-3/4" by 1-3/8".
