This is a wonderful piece by Warner which is highly sought after by collectors. It is featured in two jewelry reference books - Judith Miller's Costume Jewelry on page 211 and Jeanne Bell's Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry on page 354. Jeanne Bell refers to it as the "Mexican Rose Motif."
What makes this piece so desirable and unique is the fact that it opens and closes. When it is open, it is a lovely flower brooch. When it is closed, it forms a flower bud. For this reason, it's referred to as a "Night" and "Day" brooch. One of the petals at the bottom of the flower swivels to make the piece open and close.
The piece is in excellent condition with no visible signs of wear. The mechanism works well and is in fact just a bit tight, indicating it hasn't been used often. The roll over clasp is in excellent working condition.
The rose brooch measures 2 inches across by 2 1/2 inches high. The matching earrings are 1 inch each way. The brooch is marked WARNER in an oval plaque on the reverse.
