Karl Heinz Böhm is the son of famed conductor Karl Böhm. He began his performing career on stage. He appeared in his first film in 1952 and went on to play romantic leads in films throughout Europe. He also occasionally appeared in American films; he is best known internationally for his role as Mark, the psychopathic protagonist of Peeping Tom, directed by Michael Powell. Before that, he had played the young Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria in the three Sissi movies. Later he played in several R.W. Fassbinder films.
His greatest " engagement " however was achieved in 1981, as the today 75 year old, founded the foundation " People for People " in hunger-ridden Africa.
Since then, Karlheinz Böhm has been fighting the cause against hunger and lethargy in Ethiopian refugee camps. Several months per year he lives in the simplest conditions in Ethiopia; the rest of the time he is in Europe " campaigning ".
