Scarce old photo album with 24 originals (no reprints) reflecting a journey from Austria to Arab countries. Photographed by a famous Austrian noble man Hans Coudenhove. Handwriting with explanation by Coudenhove under each photograph.
The photos show scenes at the steamer Corinthia which brought him to Massana, Djibouti, Aden, Mombassa, Tanga, Dar es Salam, Mocambique, Durban.
Coudenhove is widely known for his popular book: My African neighbors: Man, bird, and beast in Nyasaland.
Coudenhove left Europe for Africa in 1889 and lived there continuously until 1925. This is his memoir of time there, subtitled "Man, Bird, and Beast in Nyasaland." His life was rather isolated indeed -- besides having quite infrequent contact with things such as rail lines and motor cars, he lived alone for long stretches of time.
Size of the album: 15 x 12 x 2 cm.
Please not that the cover of the album is missing and it falls in several parts. However it could be easily bound.
