Mid-19th century etching with a most charming scene from Pearl river-delta in China, entitled: “ H. M. Ships Imogene and Andromache passing the Batteries of the Bocca Tigris”.

Engraved by W. Floyd after a “Sketch on the spot by Lieut: White, Royal Marines.

Thick printing paper, 7,8 x 4,9 in is the actual print, 11 x 8,2 the complete sheet. Good condition, clean and fresh. It looks great when matted and framed.

The Humen, known historically by Europeans as the Bocca Tigris or Bogue, is a narrow strait in the Pearl River Delta that separates Shiziyang in the north and Lingdingyang in the south near Humen Town in China's Guangdong Province.

It is the site of the Pearl River's discharge into the South China Sea. It contains the Port of Humen at Humen Town. The strait is formed by the islands of Chuanbi (穿鼻) and Aniangxie(阿娘鞋, also called 威远 Weiyuan) on the eastern side, and Dajiaotou (大角头) on the western side.
