Eleonora Duse Vintage PostcardEleonora Duse Vintage Postcard

Old b/w postcard from app. 1900 with a portrait of the legend Eleonora Duse.

Eleonora Duse (1858 – 1924) was an Italian actress, often known simply as Duse. She was the subject of the 1947 biographical film Eleonora Duse.

Her American name was Oliva Edna Mills and she had a daughter born in Brooklyn, New York named Edna Elizabeth Simmons in 1910. Edan went on to become a Broadway dancer.

Duse's relationship with the dancer Isadora Duncan was also rumored to be sexual. Duse spent several weeks with her at Viareggio, the seaside resort, in 1913, shortly after the dancer's two children drowned in a tragic accident.
