Dated 1908 Antique Edwardian French Cream Paper Baptism/Christening Gift Box - Beautiful Baby with Edelweiss - Madeleine
Dating precisely to 1908, may I offer this sweet paper box from France. Meant to hold a souvenir of a Christening or Baptism, the box would have been filled with candies - French bon bons or dragees (in this day and age, Jordan almonds). The box is covered in cream paper (very lightweight) and features a colored image of an adorable baby along with an Art Nouveau flourish and a small bouquet of Swiss Edelweiss. The box has been personalized the the name of the child being celebrated - Madeleine. The date, in ink, is September 1908.
Condition: Very, very nice for its age with no tears anywhere though there is a tiny dark spot and 2 tiny pinpricks in the paper. Now there is the patina of age to the piece but that's how antique paper looks after 110 years of age!
Size: Depth is 1". Box itself measures 4" wide x 6" long.
Final Comments: Very few of the these boxes survived through the years - they were fragile and easily prone to destruction. Here's a chance to treasure a true antique French box from the past! Priced according to condition!
