Antique Edwardian French Paper Baptism Gift Box with Family Christening Image on Top
Dating to the late 1890rs or the early 1900s, may I offer this sweet paper box from France. Meant to hold a souvenir of a Christening or Baptism, the box would have been filled with candies - French bon bons or dragees (in this day and age, Jordan almonds). The box is covered in cream paper (very lightweight) and features a colored image of a family celebrating the special day edged in gold embossing and embellished with ivy.
Condition: Very, very nice for its age with no holes or tears to the BOTTOM. The TOP portion of paper covering the cardboard base, has split in 2 areas on the UNDERSIDE of the lid. If you are just going to display the box against a wall or something else, no problem, you can't see anything amiss. And if placed on a table flat, just to display, you can't see anything amiss as the tears in the top lid are at the back. Definite patina of age to the paper that indicates this piece is antique!
Size: Depth is 1". Box itself measures 3-3/8" wide x 6-5/8" long.
Final Comments: Very few of the these boxes survived through the years - they were fragile and easily prone to destruction. Here's a chance to treasure a true antique French box from the past! Priced according to condition!
