Antique French Belle Epoch 800/900 Silver Sewing Sew Thimble Scissors Needle Holder Original Case by Zingraff Paris
Dating to the late 1880s or so, may I offer this French boxed set of sewing tools - a thimble, a pair of scissors and a needle holder/bodkin. The design over all the pieces is quite ornate and there is no monogram on any of the pieces. Nestled in the original velvet and silk lined leather box, the retailer or manufacturer is Zingraff, 494 Rue de Rivoli, Paris, France. Zingraff appears to have been a leading retailer in the heart of Paris - they sold clocks, opera glasses, sewing sets and many a "little luxury" to the rich patrons of Paris.
Condition: Excellent with no problems I can spot. The set has not been polished in many a year so I will leave that to the new owner.
Metal Content: Being French, either 800 or 900 silver.
Hallmarks: All 3 pieces are marked with 2 different French hallmarks - too small for my camera to pick up. Makers mark looks like P (tennis racquet) G and the other mark looks like an Eagle head.
Size: Box, when closed, measures 5" x 2-1/2" approx. thimble is 1" high, scissors are 3-1/2" long (straight edge); needle holder is 2-11/16" long.
Final Comments: A beautiful set with some really nice designwork!
