Set of 4 European Continental Silver 800 or 900 Silver Demitasse Hot Chocolate Servers with Unmarked Porcelain Cup
Although I found these pieces together the dates of each are probably years apart. From Europe, I offer 4 silver cup holders - demitasse - hot chocolate - espresso - that have a porcelain insert by an unknown maker although Lenox is not out of the question. I believe the holders are from the 20s or 30s while the inserts are from the 40s or 50s. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
The silver holders are tarnished - I did not polish before photographing. There is no monogram on any of the pieces. The cup insert has fine gold lines (one thick, one thin) on the inside as well as the outside of the cup. NOTE: One of the cup inserts matches the set/3 I currently have on offer but because it is NOT marked Lenox, I have chosen to place it in this listing.
Condition: Excellent with no problems I can spot - the silver just needs a light polish.
Metal Content: Being Continental they are either 800 or 900 silver.
Hallmarks: After searching forever, I found 2 punch marks at the bottom front of the holder however I cannot make them out completely. They do indicate silver content and a European manufacture.
Size: Silver cup: Height is 1-13/16" high; width from side to edge of handle is 2-5/8". Porcelain insert: 2-1/8" high; width at the top is 2-1/4".
Weight: 43 grams ea approx silver holder only.
Final Comments: I have a total of 12 of these beauties in all but because the porcelain cups are slightly different I have separated the pieces into matching sets. Buy one or buy them all. NOTE: Shipping is set at $6.00 for each cup - if you buy more than one, then I will adjust the postage to the correct amount - please do not pay until I have adjusted the postage to the correct amount.
NOTE: St. Louis is headquarters to one of the best consignors to my shop. They take in a lot of silver flatware and hollow ware as part trade for sale of their jewelry. Some of the pieces are wonderful and I want to save as many as I can from being scrapped so I will be offering as many silver items as possible. When I can, I will beat anyone’s price on RL. I want to turn over the silver inventory quickly so I can keep loading in more. St. Louis was a boom city in the 1800s and the silver inventory here is legendary. For those who know, the 1904 World’s Fair held one of the largest competitions in silver design – all the big maker names of the day competed and a lot of the winning pieces stayed in St. Louis after the Fair ended. So keep watching my listings, I never know what I am going to have week to week – all I know is it will be varied, fabulous and deserving of a good home.
Buy with Confidence. Robins Nest Midwest has the highest rating a shop can attain on RL.
