Antique Edwardian Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Coin Purse Coin Holder Compact Hand Held Purse Bill Holder for a Lady
Dating to the early 1900s may I offer this ornate Art Nouveau Sterling Silver purse - coin holder - bill holder - vanity case that features an intricately engraved scrollwork and floral pattern to the front and an ornament monogram of PG (ribbon-like design) to the reverse. There is an attached chain to the top which allows the purse to dangle freely from the wrist.
The interior of the piece features two spring loaded coin holders to hold change securely (dime and nickel size I believe). There is also a spring loaded money clip to the right side and a lift up mirror just below the coin section. The mirror is in excellent condition - highly polished so that a reflection is without mar or blemish. Below the mirror, a powder well which does not appear to have been used - it now can hold anything you wish to be “out of sight”.
Condition: The outside does show light surface markings as is the case with any piece of "old silver"; I also spot one teeny tiny dimple at the front center and another just above the coin holder (they are so tiny I doubt they even show in my photos). A professional polish on a jewelers wheel would bring the outside finish to near perfection. Closes securely with a tight fit - no gaps.
Measurements: The purse itself measures 3-1/2" x 2-1/2". The chain adds an additional 5-3/4" in height. Depth is about 7/16".
Weight: 111 grams
Signature/Marks: The only mark on the entire piece is STERLING on the bill holder clip.
Final Comments: Gorgeous!
