Vintage Retro Modern Modernist Italian Tole Painted Floral Wooden Collapsible Bookends - Hollywood Regency

From Italy and dating o the 1950s or so may I offer this pair of handpainted Italian bookends. Made of wood, gesso and then painted in oils, the designs on each book end are similar in theme but different in the rendering. In truth, you are looking at 2 original oil paintings! The bases of the bookends are metal and the pieces fold down for storage or easy packing. Condition is excellent with a little bit of age here and there. These really aren't Shabby Chic chippy pieces but well done beauties that will take pride of place on any shelf.

Hallmarks: None. All original Italy labels or tags are gone.

Size: Fronts measure 4" wide x 5-1/4 high.

Final Comments: Absolutely gorgeous and they have been in my possession since I bought them in London, England in 1984. I never wanted to part with them but I'm a dealer, not a collector.
