ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN Sterling Silver, Mustache, Boot Black, Brush

Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!

One of my consignors takes in a lot of silver flatware and hollow ware as part trade for sale of their jewelry. Some of the pieces are wonderful and I want to save as many as I can from being scrapped so I will be offering as many silver items I can.

Up for offer now…

AGE: C.1910 or so

ITEM: Just heading into Art Deco territory, here's an antique scrub brush, for lady or gent, with a handle made of bone and bristles (more than likely) made of Boar hair. The brush portion of the piece is marked FRANCE while the handle was made by the Webster Co. The design to the handle is all florals and abstract ribbon - the end result is a fabulous handle! Now as to what this piece was used for, I have no idea! However, there are two thoughts - first, a boot blacking brush, second, a mustache brush. Too big to be a tooth brush that's for sure!

CONDITION: Being vintage, there are light marks of use, storage and time. The patina to the silver is wonderfully warm with all the right areas highlighted with the appropriate "blackness" of age. The brush portion appears to be completely intact, fairly clean and no bristles appear to be falling out.

METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver

HALLMARKS: STERLING on both sides of the handle. NOTE: I actually found the set but many of the pieces were damaged however the makers mark was for the Webster Co. On the brush section, FRANCE.

SIZE: Length is 8-1/4"; width at the horn is 1-1/2".

FINAL COMMENTS: Just a fabulous vanity item for lady or gent that will be destroyed if I don't find a home. So I have priced it to sell quickly!

Anyone want?

(SCJ#28b)

FINAL COMMENTS: When I can, I will beat anyone’s price on RL. I want to turn over the silver inventory quickly so I can keep loading in more. St. Louis was a boom city in the 1800s and the silver inventory here is legendary. For those who know, the 1904 World’s Fair held one of the largest competitions in silver design – all the big maker names of the day competed and a lot of the winning pieces stayed in St. Louis after the Fair ended. So keep watching my listings, I never know what I am going to have week to week – all I know is it will be varied, fabulous and deserving of a good home.
