Whiting Company, Arabesque Pattern, STERLING SILVER, 2 Teaspoons, Monogramed

Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!

One of my consignors takes in a lot of silver flatware and hollow ware as part trade for sale of their jewelry. Some of the pieces are wonderful and I want to save as many as I can from being scrapped so I will be offering as many silver items I can.

Up for offer now…

AGE: C.1875

ITEM: From Gorham, the Whiting Mfg Co division, comes this pair of teaspoons in the Arabesque pattern - a design which, may be hard to see in my photos, but which contains a a mythical creature (Griffin?) with his paw over the oval cartouche. Inside the oval is written A. Ewan or A. Evan (both pieces). It is possible for the monogram to be erased however a jeweler experienced with removal should do this.

CONDITION: Being vintage, there are light marks of use, storage and time. The patina is wonderfully warm and I try to only lightly polish for photos. There are no major defects like dings, dents or ugly blemishes that might spoil the beauty of the silver.

METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver

HALLMARKS: J.A. Kinsev (Retailer), Pat. 1875, Whiting Hallmark (Griffin over a W), STERLING

SIZE: Length of the teaspoon is 5-3/4"; width at the bowl is 1-1/4".

WEIGHT: 49 Grams the pair

RETAIL TODAY: As far as I am concerned, priceless! The ornate beauty of the pair is just breathtaking! However, the replacement site wants $24.99 for a single spoon (with monogram); the auction site wants $20 for a single spoon with mono. It seems if you find the pattern without mono, a single spoon has an asking price of $49.

Anyone want?

FINAL COMMENTS: When I can, I will beat anyone’s price on RL. I want to turn over the silver inventory quickly so I can keep loading in more. St. Louis was a boom city in the 1800s and the silver inventory here is legendary. For those who know, the 1904 World’s Fair held one of the largest competitions in silver design – all the big maker names of the day competed and a lot of the winning pieces stayed in St. Louis after the Fair ended. So keep watching my listings, I never know what I am going to have week to week – all I know is it will be varied, fabulous and deserving of a good home.
