Antique Victorian 14K Gold Natural Pearl Turquoise Black Enamel Earrings
Dating to the late 1800s may I offer this pair of yellow gold earrings - and no, they weren't cufflinks (as you might think) when I found. I originally found these earrings with long, loopy hooks - however, they had completely deteriorated and needed replacing. I took the earrings to my jeweler and he told me that he could convert the hooks to posts only - which I had him do. The result is that the earrings no longer hang from the ear but rather sit on the ear! True Victorian beauties, the pair is made of yellow gold and features natural pearls and turquoise cabs. The design is made all the more elegant by the black taille d'epergne enamel. It's possible the pair was meant as a "just coming out of mourning" set but I am not sure. All I know is that the look is extremely elegant and BOLD for the age.
Condition: There are only a couple small faux pas - 2 of the turquoise cabs have some minor issues - one stone has a "shaved edge" which you are not going to spot at all - the other stone has a small section missing at the tip. Hard to see with the naked eye but I am sure it shows in my photos. Sorry, no nuts but then again, every lady has more than her fair share of nuts in her jewelry box.
Metal Content: 14K Gold with a hallmark on the earwire of 14K. The stud itself was gently acid tested for content.
Size: 3/4" high/wide
Weight: 6.7 Grams
Final Comments: Victorian earrings in pristine condition are hard enough to find and when you do, you pay the price. I have priced these pieces with the minor faux pas in mind.
