Pat. Sept. 8, 1914 STERLING SILVER Handle Gravy Ladle - No Monogram, Unknown Maker

Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!

One of my consignors takes in a lot of silver flatware and hollow ware as part trade for sale of their jewelry. Some of the pieces are wonderful and I want to save as many as I can from being melted so I will be offering a lot of serving pieces and some of the best ANTIQUE silver pieces that come my way. So, may I offer….

AGE: Dated "Patented Sept. 8, 1914".

ITEM: From an unknown maker, here's a lovely gravy ladle with a sterling silver handle. The design, both back and front, feature a "carved oval shell" at the top and an oval cartouche with leaves both top and bottom.

CONDITION: Very nice with just minor marks of use to the handle and ladle. Ladle is nicely silver plated and is still completely covered in a silver overlay. A light polish is still needed as I didn't polish completely.

METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver

LADLE: Stainless Steel

HALLMARKS: Stamped STERLING both back and front on the bottom left of the handle - both back and front. Marked Pat Sept 8, '14 on the back of the ladle.

SIZE: Length is 7"; width of the bowl is 2-3/8".

FINAL COMMENTS: I have a companion piece on offer in another listing - a serving fork. Oh, and if anyone can tell me the name of this pattern, I sure would appreciated it - none of my books features the design though I might be close to a correct answer. The pattern is possibly by the Frank W. Smith Silver Co. The reason I say this is because the top "shell" is from their 1914 Georgian Garland pattern and the oval with leaves is similar to their 1913 pattern, Vergennes.
