Well, one of my best sources of jewelry who has given me carte blanche to photo what I want to present to my customers.
Up for offer now……..
AGE: DATED 1954
ITEM: Goodness! They just don't make pieces light this anymore! Fashioned of yellow gold with black taille d'epergne enamel detailing, this link bracelet with tassel keeps a secret - there's a watch under the "lift up" buckle. The name on the face is BALTO and unfortunately, the piece is not working. Slide in catch on the bracelet that's easy to put together by one's self along with a side safety latch and separate safety chain (spring clasp). The underside of the watch has been engraved with "Always my love - 21st '54 Ernie". Seems like an anniversary present.
CONDITION: As a bracelet - EXCELLENT! Just gorgeous! The gold feels like silk when on the wrist. As to the watch? No, it's not working. It may be repairable, it may not be. But if works of the same size can be found, then it would be easy to replace. Either that OR insert a locket section so that a loved one's photo can be viewed under the buckle. Of course, replacement is custom work and would cost a little to effect the changes.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold
HALLMARKS: 14K on the back of the watch; Pat Pend 14K on the back of the catch.
SIZE: Length is a little over 6-3/4" - wearable length would probably be 6-3/4". The bracelet length IS NOT adjustable. Width of the gold on the linkage is 11/16"; width at the buckle is 1".
WEIGHT: A hefty 51.7 grams (33.2 dwt) (at a gold price of $1317.90 on 5/12/18 - the bracelet has about $1280 in gold scrap). But could you make the piece for that much these days? Absolutely NOT!
FINAL COMMENTS: Like the look of Victorian but don't want the price of a similar bracelet or don't want the "thin" gold that accompanies a genuine antique? Well, here's something that is so solid, so substantial, that it will probably last a few lifetimes. Please don't let this piece of gold be scrapped for content - to me, it's the worst fate a vintage piece of jewelry can encounter. Every time I pick it up it's screaming SAVE ME!!
In checking the Internet - First Dibs has a similar one available for $4,000. Well, I think I can do a little better!
