Art Nouveau Revival 18K Yellow Gold Enamel Cultured Pearl Dragonfly Pin
Dating to the 1960s or so may I offer, from France, this a wonderful insect brooch - a Dragonfly with all its wide spread winged glory! The piece is made of yellow gold and features enamel wings - no, NOT plique a jour "see through" enamel, but rather "on gold" vitreous enamel. While the red, blue and white is dark, the yellow and orange enamel appears to be over foil - the shimmer is wonderful! The eyes of the insect are cultured pearls with gold "spikes" securing the pearls to the head. Safety catch at the back to hold the pin in place. Condition is excellent with no problems I can spot.
Metal Content: 18K Gold with Hallmarks of a rectangular symbol on the wing that comprises 18K 750, the French Boars Head mark as well as a diamond shaped lozenge with AL419 on the inside. There is also one other small mark that I can't quite make out.
Size: 2-3/16" wide x 1-3/4" high.
Weight: A respectable 10.9 grams - solid gold pin.
Final Comments: Adorable! With the enamel on gold, there is less likelihood of breakage.
