ANTIQUE VICTORIAN First Communion Card - Celluloid, Hand Painted, Wood Frame
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: The card dates to C.1890; the frame dates to C.1920
ITEM: First Communion cards from France are sooooo hard to find and sometimes, just sometimes, in order to save them, your have to frame. In this case, I found this celluloid backed, hand painted piece by itself but it was the center Victorian Die Cut of a young girl in full First Communion garb (as well as the painted SOUVENIR DE MA 1re COMMUNION at the bottom) that needed the protection. I found some back paper that looked antique, added a little ribbon and then sealed the card in the Art Deco era wooden frame you see. Now, the card is protected and the entire piece can be gifted to a young girl on her First Communion.
CONDITION: While the inside contents are now perfect and under glass, the frame shows a little bit of Shabby Vintage Chic'ness within the dark brown inner border.
SIZE: Frame measures 3-3/4" wide x 7-1/8" high. The frame does hve a hanger at the back made of jute string (thick).
FINAL COMMENTS: I only have the one piece - this is definitely a ONE OF A KIND piece. (And if the pics look a little off, believe me, the piece in person is great - all beige, brown and gold tones with just that splash of white at the center).
