Vintage SILVER GILT Pin - Grey Shell, Middle East, Filigree, Brooch
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: I am guessing the 1950s BUT this design was very popular during the Victorian era so this pin may just be that old.
ITEM: A silver iridescent shell pin (Mabe Pearl? Blister Pearl?) with a nice filigree edge. The pin is silver gilt - silver covered with a heavy layer of gold (vermeil) while the center section of the pin is a silver/grey, very iridescent shell, oval in shape with a HIGH shine! Simple c-catch at the back to hold the pinstem in place.
CONDITION: Very nice with no problems I can spot.
METAL CONTENT: Being of Mid East origin, the silver content can be anywhere from 800 to 970.
HALLMARKS: None that I can find. Most likely the silver content was on the original packaging that came with the pins. Metal has been VERY lightly acid tested and does test as silver though the exact content is indeterminate.
SIZE: 2" x 1-1/2"
WEIGHT: 9.1 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Very, very nice!
