Art Deco COPPER Medal - Religious, Saint Therese, St Thérèse of Lisieux, American

Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!

Religious items are in a tricky place when it comes to listing. Most of the items I offer are jewelry so per Ruby Lane rules, they are supposed to be listed in jewelry. But I know that a lot of buyers look in the COLLECTIBLES RELIGIOUS category to find jewelry as well. So I am going to set down this rule for my listings and hope that once my customers get used to it, they will know where to look.

If an item is silver tone metal or silverplate/silver plate or gold filled or copper - the item will be listed in COLLECTIBLES RELIGIOUS.

If an item is sterling silver or 14K Gold - the item will be listed in JEWELRY.

So may I now offer from my collection of religious treasures.....

AGE: C.1920/1930 or so - Art Deco period

ITEM: From the Shrine of the Little Flower in Chicago, Ill, USA, here's a copper colored (or genuine copper) souvenir medal, pendant or charm depicting Saint Therese aka St Thérèse of Lisieux to the front; the back of the medal states where the medal originated.

CONDITION: Very nice with no problems I can spot. Nice strike to the front with St Therese at the center of a flower.

METAL CONTENT: Copper or a Copper Colored Metal

HALLMARKS: None, save for the writing at the back of the medal.

SIZE: Medal, without bale, measures 13/16" high/wide.

FINAL COMMENTS: All that's needed now is the right chain or bracelet to display the piece.

SAINT THERESE: Saint Thérèse of Lisieux born Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin (2 January 1873 – 30 September 1897), also known as Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face was a French Catholic Discalced Carmelite nun who is widely venerated in modern times. She is popularly known as "The Little Flower of Jesus" or simply "The Little Flower". Together with Saint Francis of Assisi, she is one of the most popular saints in the history of the Catholic Church.

Thérèse felt an early call to religious life, and overcoming various obstacles, in 1888 at the early age of 15, she became a nun and joined two of her elder sisters in the cloistered Carmelite community of Lisieux, Normandy. After nine years as a Carmelite religious, having fulfilled various offices such as sacristan and assistant to the novice mistress, and having spent her last eighteen months in Carmel in a night of faith, she died at aged 24, following a slow and painful fight against tuberculosis.
