ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN Fan - Silver, Sequin, Tulle, Carved Bone
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: Anywhere from Late Victorian to Early Edwardian
ITEM: More than likely China Export - here's a carved bone fan - ox bone it appears to be, with an organza/tulle overlay embellished with hand sewn silver sequins of the tiniest size! The loop at the bottom that holds the entire piece together appears to be celluloid. The fan is complete in every aspect with the first slat having a bit of carving as well as inlaid silver sequins; the last slat of the fan is plain with no sequin inlay - just a lovely carved swirl.
CONDITION: While the front tulle/sequin section is perfect, the back organza has two splits at the back (near the slat ends). Unfortunately, the splits cannot be seen in my photos as they are hard to spot even when you are holding the fan in your hand. There are no silver sequins missing from the inlay on the first slat, of the fan but when you open the fan and look at the inside bottom of the slats, there are 8 sequins missing from the inlay. Silver paint might do to replace the missing sequins.
SIZE: When closed, 7-1/2" x 1/2" approx. When open, 13-3/4" x 7-1/2".
FINAL COMMENTS: Just a lovely old fan in need of some TLC - or leave as is and use it as an accessory to your favorite doll or teddy bear!
