ART DECO Platinum Pin - 14K Gold, .65CT TW, Diamond, Black Onyx, Brooch
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
ITEM: An Art Deco beauty! Made of Platinum with a yellow gold pinstem, here's a lengthy bar pin from the era of Jazz! Featuring a multitude of diamonds, the 3 largest stones are highlighted by a circlet of Black Onyx. Old fashioned safety catch at the back to hold the pinstem in place.
CONDITION: Excellent with no problems I can spot.
METAL CONTENT: Platinum (tested) along with an 14K Gold pinstem/catch (again, tested)
DIAMONDS: There are 3 collet-set diamonds in the onyx settings and on the main pin, 8 prong-set diamonds. To the best of my ability the stones measure: 1 @ 3.5 mm (17 points), 2 @ 3mm (11 points), 2 @ 2.5mm (6 points), 2 at 2mm (3 points) and 4 at 1.8mm (2 points). Total diamond weight to the pin is therefore .65CT TW. Color is G-H and grading is VS1-SI1. Fabulous CLEAR, sparkly stones!
HALLMARKS: None that I can spot though there does appear to be one initial A "scratched in" at the back of the pin. This would denote the jewelers mark if I am seeing correctly.
SIZE: 2-11/16" x 3/8"
WEIGHT: 7.1 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Yes, this is the type of design that Cartier was known for but without the hallmark, I cannot say with any certainty that the piece is indeed by Cartier. Usually there would be jeweler's scratches on the inside of the pin indicating a numbered manufacture but I honestly cannot spot any sort of mark at all save for the faint A.
