ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN 14K Gold & Salmon Coral Drop Earrings
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1900 or so - while the earrings may indeed be a lot older, perhaps Victorian, I rather think they are early Edwardian.
ITEM: A pair of yellow gold and salmon coral drop earrings that are definitely a unique design! The drops are for pierced ears, threaded posts with screw nuts, and feature a round coral cab at the top and 5 sets of drops. The drops start with round beads of coral while the bottom 2 rows are tubular cut beads. NOTE: The coral is 100% NATURAL - not dyed - not treated in any way and because of this, all the striations, pock marks, white spots that accompany natural coral are present in practically every single bead. However, because the beads are on stems, all the good pieces can be turned to the front with the beads having the most "naturalness" turned to the back.
CONDITION: Well, there is a bit of light dust that I didn't quite clean off before photo'ing - the dustiness might show in the photos. But other than that, not a darn thing wrong with these beauties!
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold
HALLMARKS: 14K on the nuts. The posts as well as one section on each earring were lightly acid tested for content.
SIZE: The dot measures 5/16" high/wide (6.5mm). From top of dot to bottom of earring measures a little longer than 1-1/2"; width is 3/4" where the 2nd row of coral beads lie.
WEIGHT: A combined 6.2 grams - lightweight on each ear and with a movement that is just wonderful!
FINAL COMMENTS: Everyone knows that "the good stuff" is fast disappearing - this is especially true for items of coral be the items in silver or gold. In all the days I have been a dealer in jewelry, I have never had a pair of beauties like this - I don't think they will last long, especially with the holidays approaching. They just don't make 'em like this anymore!
