OLD STORE STOCK! Vintage 14K Gold Religious Medal - Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!
OLD STORE STOCK! What does this mean? Well, to a person who sells jewelry, it’s like finding a Holy Grail – store stock that was stored for so long that it was never offered to the public. This means, in some instances, that the original card, wrapping, packaging is present as well as the original sales price. I got lucky recently and came into such a collection of old store stock that listings beginning with this blurb have not seen the light of day in 50 – 60 – 70 years. First come, first served. May I offer now……
AGE: C.1950 or so
ITEM: Our Lady of Mount Carmel aka Our Lady of the Scapular. Here's a religious medal of the Blessed Virgin & Child still on its original card and still having its original cellophane. Never been sold - never been worn! While the front of the medal is matte gold with almost a chisel like appearance to the piece, the back is plain, shiny metal - made to engrave a sentiment on the back. A perfect size for lady or gent.
CONDITION: While the piece has never been worn, the strike of the design is not as well done as others that I have - maybe this is due to the smaller size of the medal. Still, it is very nice and I doubt the new owner would be disappointed.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold
HALLMARKS: 14K at the back
SIZE: 3/4" high/wide not including the bale or jump ring
WEIGHT: 2.8 grams.
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL: Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid 13th century. They built in the midst of their hermitages a chapel which they dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, whom they conceived of in chivalric terms as the "Lady of the place." Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the patron saint of Chile.
Since the 15th century, popular devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has centered on the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel also known as the Brown Scapular, a sacramental associated with promises of Mary's special aid for the salvation of the devoted wearer. Traditionally, Mary is said to have given the Scapular to an early Carmelite named Saint Simon Stock. The liturgical feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated on 16 July.
FINAL COMMENTS: I only have one and with the holidays fast approaching and my knowing that my religious inventory gets depleted, don’t delay in grabbing this item sooner rather than later.
