Unused C.1890 NATAL Half Penny Postcard - Long Happy New Year Greeting
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!
Both Art and I love paper and with Art’s collection from the past 50 years and my collection from the last 30 years, we have a lot of ephemera to offer on Ruby Lane. It is going to take some time to get it all listed, but when we finish, there should be something to tempt anyone who visits the shop. Up for offer now…..
AGE: C.1890 or so
ITEM: A Victorian era UNUSED postcard, pre-stamped with a blacked out PENNY HALF PENNY stamp. The stamp is one from NATAL and the card is of English manufacture. The front of the card is unaddressed and features the British Coat of Arms. The reverse has a detailed message for the New Year as well as as the image of a young lady.
CONDITION: Very nice.
NOTE: The cards always look better in person than in my scans/photos.
PUBLISHERS INFORMATION: None that I can spot unless the publisher is also the company sending the card.
SIZE: 3-1/2" x 5-1/2"
FINAL COMMENTS: The Colony of Natal was a British colony in south-eastern Africa. It was proclaimed a British colony on 4 May 1843 after the British government had annexed the Boer Republic of Natalia, and on 31 May 1910 combined with three other colonies to form the Union of South Africa, as one of its provinces. It is now the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.
FURTHER NOTE: I can put an awful lot of paper into one envelope so be assured, if you buy more than 1 piece of paper, I will adjust the postage once I receive the purchase order. And please, don’t pay until I HAVE revised the postage. Thanks.
