C.1900 FRENCH Paper Label for a Cake of Soap - Lily of the Valley
Both Art and I love paper and with Art’s collection from the past 50 years and my collection from the last 30 years, we have a lot of ephemera to offer on Ruby Lane. It is going to take some time to get it all listed, but when we finish, there should be something to tempt anyone who visits the shop. Up for offer now…..
AGE: C.1900 or so
ITEM: Here's a very large French label that would have been used to cover a bar of soap - well, maybe a box that contained the bar of soap - it's hard to say. The label is from Paris and was manufactured during La Belle Epoque. With a design to the cream background, the main visual feast is the center, a lovely amalgam of white Lily of the Valley and pink ribbon. The soap was manufactured for Victor Vaissier and the label is entitled Savon Olgalia au Muguet.
CONDITION: Excellent with no tears, etc. Coloring is slightly darker than what shows in the scan. In other words, you'll gasp when you see in person! Chromo labels are ALWAYS the best!
NOTE: The cards always look better in person than in my scans/photos.
HALLMARKS: Made for Victor Vaissier, Paris. France.
SIZE: 7-5/8" x 5-13/16". Design at center from wording to bottom wording is about 2-1/2" x 2-1/4".
FINAL COMMENTS: I only have a limited number of these labels and once they are gone, they are gone. Contact me if you need more than 1.
FURTHER NOTE: I can put an awful lot of paper into one envelope so be assured, if you buy more than 1 piece of paper, I will adjust the postage once I receive the purchase order. And please, don’t pay until I HAVE revised the postage. Thanks.
