Vintage FRENCH FIX Metal Banner on Ribbon - Reads "Le Petit Journal"
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1930 or so
ITEM: From France and in an Art Nouveau style, here's a banner piece of metal that, as you can see, was pressed over a piece of ribbon, the ribbon holding a medal of some sort at one time. The gold bannner reads "Le Petit Journal" and the printed design is stamped on both sides. Extraction from the red ribbon it is on is simply a matter of opening the metal a smidge and pulling it off the ribbon - then, it can go on another piece!
CONDITION: Very nice with no problems I can spot.
HALLMARKS: None that I can spot - the hallmark might have been on the medal.
METAL CONTENT: French Gold Filled items were of a metal combination that had the look/appearance of 18K gold with a rose gold underlay. If the yellow gold became worn, the rose gold underlay would appear giving the piece the most unusual color combination. However, the yellow gold layer was usually so thick that this usually never happened. Gold Filled items were made in France under a variety of names - FIX, ORIA, MURAT and ULTRA.
SIZE: 1-5/8" x 3/8"
WEIGHT: 2.5 grams with the ribbon
FINAL COMMENTS: Fabulous!
