C.1882 VICTORIAN Merry Christmas/Happy New Year Tradecard
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!
Both Art and I love paper and with Art’s collection from the past 50 years and my collection from the last 30 years, we have a lot of ephemera to offer on Ruby Lane. It is going to take some time to get it all listed, but when we finish, there should be something to tempt anyone who visits the shop. Up for offer now…..
AGE: C.1882 or so
ITEM: A Victorian era trade card for something I really don't know. The card is actually a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year Card and is dated 1882-1883; the bottom line of the card reads The Light Running "Domestic" and then the back of the card, which is plain, has the faintest purple stamping that I believe reads "For Sale by W. HughesNo 218 Winton Street, Opera House Block, Iowa City, Iowa." The graphics to the front of the card show a young child lifting a paper backdrop to reveal a very old chateau or castle. Again, the product for which the card is advertising eludes me.
CONDITION: Very nice with only 4 brown spots to the back where the card was once pasted into a scrapbook.
NOTE: The cards always look better in person than in my scans/photos.
PUBLISHERS INFORMATION: None.
SIZE: 2-7/8" x 4-3/4"
FINAL COMMENTS: Very nice.
FURTHER NOTE: I can put an awful lot of paper into one envelope so be assured, if you buy more than 1 piece of paper, I will adjust the postage once I receive the purchase order. And please, don’t pay until I HAVE revised the postage. Thanks.
