VICTORIAN Trade Card for Ayer's Ague Cure - Swamp, Log Cabin, Alligator & Frogs
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST!
Both Art and I love paper and with Art’s collection from the past 50 years and my collection from the last 30 years, we have a lot of ephemera to offer on Ruby Lane. It is going to take some time to get it all listed, but when we finish, there should be something to tempt anyone who visits the shop. Up for offer now…..
AGE: C.1890 or so
ITEM: A Victorian era trade card for Ayer's Ague Cure, warranted to cure all malarial disorders (in the U.S.???) The card depicts a log cabin on a lake, probably in a swamp as there is an alligator, a water bird and frogs depicted on the front of the card.
CONDITION: Very nice for its age. Quite clean, quite white but there is a bit of paper wear/paper residue to the top right corner of the front. The reverse of the card shows some light discoloration - feels like where the paste once was when glued in the scrapbook I found it in.
NOTE: The cards always look better in person than in my scans/photos.
PUBLISHERS INFORMATION: Prepared by Dr. J.C. Ayer & Co., Lowell, Mass.
SIZE: 4-9/16" x 2-7/16"
FINAL COMMENTS: Too cute!
FURTHER NOTE: I can put an awful lot of paper into one envelope so be assured, if you buy more than 1 piece of paper, I will adjust the postage once I receive the purchase order. And please, don’t pay until I HAVE revised the postage. Thanks.
