Vintage Taxco, Mexico STERLING SILVER & Wood Inlay Necklace & Earrings
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1940 or so
ITEM: A 2-part silver set from Taxco, Mexico - a necklace and the matching earrings. In a "comma" design, all the piece have inlay work that seems to be a brown wood of some sort. The earrings are screwbacks while the necklace has a "hook" closure that goes into the last link of the necklace. The manufacturer of the set is Q. Valladares - a maker I am unfamiliar with.
CONDITION: Very nice with no problems I can spot (anything you THINK you see, is just flash from my camera). Mellow patina to the silver.
METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: Q. Valladares 925 STERLING Taxco along with an Eagle Mark 3.
SIZE: Necklace measures 15-1/4"; width is 3/4". Extra length could be added to the necklace with a bit of large link chain at the link end. Earring fronts measure 1-1/4" x 3/4".
WEIGHT: Earrings weigh 9.3 grams. Necklace weighs 45.2 grams.
FINAL COMMENTS: A most interesting set that is extremely well made. No information can be found on Q. Valladares though some speculate he might be Quintin V. - again, a Taxco maker of jewelry who also has no major information regarding his designs.
