ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 14K Gold, Enamel, .10CT Diamond & Natural Pearl Sword Pin/Brooch
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1890 or so
ITEM: Not as large as my turban/jabot pin but LARGE nonetheless! Here's another sword pin with a hilt of white enamel, a handle and tip of natural split pearls and a faceted round diamond accent at the lower end of the hilt. Old fashioned safety catch at the back that curves with the pin so it does not show when worn.
CONDITION: Beautiful! Perfect! Pristine! BUT - did this pin start out in life like it is? No, I don't think so. I really do believe that this pin had the sword came out of the hilt when first made. The reason I say this is because there is a touch of lead solder at the tip end holding the sword inside the scabbard. The other reason I say this is simply because it is soooo difficult to hide a pin stem at the back of so thin a pin. But you be the judge.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold
HALLMARKS: None that I can spot. Metal was acid tested for content.
SIZE: Length, on a straight line, is 2-3/8". Width, again on a straight line, is 13/16".
GEMSTONES: Tons of split pearls as you can see ranging in size from 1.2mm to 1.4mm - one pearl is slightly grayer than the others. The diamond measures 3mm (10 points) and looks to be an old cut.
WEIGHT: 6.1 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Ready to wear!
