C.1910 BELGIAN Silverplate & Glass Bead Rosary - Precieux Sang de Bruges
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer....
AGE: C.1910 or so
ITEM: A wonderfully patinated silverplate (I think) and faceted glass bead rosary from Belgium. Celebrating the Precieux Sang de Bruges (precious blood of Bruges), center medal shows Jesus amongst a group of angels - it really is an interesting piece. The back of the center medal reads Souvenir du Precieux Sand de Bruges" while the back of the corpus/cross pretty much says the same. All 59 beads are present and there are 6 extra silverplate beads with religious personages on one side only.
CONDITION: Very nice with a dark patina to the all the medals. Glass beads are in great condition with no chips/cracks that I can spot - some of the beads have little spots where the glass has bubbled and there are a couple of pock marks in the glass that happened during the molding process. There's a bit of thread around one bit of chain on the rosary - could be just entangled thread or it could be there to help keep the piece together. I'll let the new owner figure that one out.
METAL CONTENT: Silverplate though a couple of the pieces show indents that might have been the silver content stamps but since they are unreadable, I'm just going to stick to a silver plate ruling on the metal.
HALLMARKS: As I mention above - a couple of indents on the center medal and bottom cross that may or may not denote metal content. Bottom cross also has FRANCE written on the bale.
SIZE: From back of rosary to bottom of cross measures about 16". Center medal measures about 1/2" x 9/16". Cross measures 1-1/4" x 5/8".
WEIGHT: 13.4 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Leave as is or take apart and reconfigure into another design.
