Scrumptious ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 14K Tri-Gold & Natural Pearl Locket
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer....
AGE: C.1880 or so
ITEM: Made of 3 colors of gold (yellow, rose and green), may I present this simply breathtaking Victorian locket. Fashioned of 3 tiers, this piece has so much going on, it's hard to know where to start with the description! The bale has a "chain" embellished on the top - in Victorian parlance that means "chained to one's heart or locked in one's keeping". There are 3 pearls at the top center - these represent tears though sometimes they can also mean betrothal. There are leaves - small buds - etching and at the back, an engraved sentiment - YKC from HTV (hope I got those initials right). Locket back opens easily (closes with a snap) to reveal a glass section that really just seems to fall out. There is a nice deep interior to place a sentiment or a photo - just make sure a touch of padding is added.
CONDITION: Excellent with no problems I can spot. There is some tarnish to the piece so this shows as "dark" in the photos. Believe me, this is a natural occurrence that happens only with 100 years of age! NOTE: The back initials can be removed by a jeweler proficient in repairing antique jewelry - either by removal with a buffer or a fill with liquid gold.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold
HALLMARKS: Being American Victorian there is none - metal has been acid tested for content.
SIZE: From top of chain bale to bottom measures 2-3/16"; width is 1-5/16". Back opening is 3/4" x 1-1/8".
WEIGHT: 14.5 grams
FINAL COMMENTS: Just needs the right book chain or thick chain to make it complete (mine's just for show).
