Classic ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 14K Gold, Garnet & Pearl Locket Pin
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer for your consideration....
AGE: C.1880 or so
ITEM: A stunning Victorian locket pin made of gold and featuring some wonderful Etruscan Revival wirework as well as some delicate engraving and featuring a center panel of garnet upon which has been placed a 6-pointed star set with a single pearl. The pin has been coated in a high carat gold bloom (usually 18K) and though it is small, it definitely packs a punch in the looks department.
The pin has a safety catch - a later addition as the age of this piece would have seen a c-catch. Actually both sides of the pin show later application of a pin mechanism. There is also a bale/jump ring present so that the piece may be worn as a pendant OR the added bale/jump ring served as an attachment for an additional safety pin so that the larger piece might not be lost.
CONDITION: Excellent. Replacement findings were clean done. Back locket rim (rose gold in color) comes out easily and goes back in just the same. Glass is present. A bit of tarnish is around the application of the findings - a further light polish might be in order.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold with an 18K Gold bloom.
HALLMARKS: None as is the norm with most pieces of Victorian jewelry. Metal was gently acid tested for content.
SIZE: 1-1/8" high/wide.
WEIGHT: 6.7 grams with the locket piece in place.
FINAL COMMENTS: Ready for a little padding and your own picture!
