Adjustable C.1960 Jobs Daughters Masonic Tiara or Crown - Gilt Metal & Rhinestones
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1940 or so
ITEM: It's not often you find a masonic tiara that is adjustable but here I have just such a beauty! More than likely manufactured in France (though USA is not out of the picture), the piece was, I believe, made for a Queen of Jobs Daughters; it could also have been made for the theatre or for a Mardi Gras Krewe Queen that needed a crown to wear during important ceremonies. This gilt (gilded) metal crown features glass rhinestones that are both set in open and close backed settings. The crown is adjustable by means of the two bands being able to be opened wider/closed tighter at the back.
CONDITION: The metal band does show evidence of having been bent as the back is not a "perfect" crescent moon shape. There is one area, at the center, where there is a minor repair and a dot of solder shows rather than a rhinestone. It's hard to spot and I must say was done very cleanly so the effect on the overall look of the crown is minimal. Some stones are bright while others have darkened due to age; metal seems to be dark gold in some places and lighter in others (from use and in the wearing). Just all part of the "vintage patina" process.
METAL CONTENT: Just plain gilt metal or a gilt overlay a silver metal base.
HALLMARKS: None that I can spot.
SIZE: The front design measures 3-1/2" north/south. The entire design of the crown measures about 10" using a fabric tape measure. Again, the crown is adjustable so I'd say one size fits all
FINAL COMMENTS: You just don't find them like this anymore!
