Vintage FAR EASTERN Carved Bone Necklace - Needs TLC
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1950 or so
ITEM: Found in a box of costume jewelry, here's an interesting necklace of carved bone. The piece is composed of a large floral panel with round beads and carved open section spacers. Carving is crude as bone was quite hard to carve - also, this piece is most likely souvenir which meant the artisans chose speed of creation over quality in the making. No closure - necklace is meant to go over the head.
CONDITION: Very nice though the string holding the necklace together has broken. A restringing is definitely in order OR use the beads and pendant in other creations.
SIZE: Pendant measures 1-3/8" wide x 2" high. Beads are are between 4 and 5mm. Spacers measure 1-5/16" x 7/16". The entire length of the beads is about 26".
FINAL COMMENTS: An interesting bit of jewelry from the Far East.
