Native American STERLING SILVER & Recon Turquoise Necklace & Bracelet!
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1950 or so - the Fred Harvey era of Native American souvenir jewelry
ITEM: A rare matched set of Native American (Navajo Designed), Fred Harvey, souvenir jewelry pieces - a necklace and a bracelet. The links of both pieces are a sort of "daisy" with a round cab of recon turquoise set at the center. Since both pieces are the same size, you can actually add the bracelet to the necklace to make the necklace longer if desired! Simple hook and eye closure to both pieces.
RECON TURQUOISE: Supply exceeded demand when Native American jewelry hits its heyday and jewelers needed to find a reasonable substitute to keep up with demand. One person figured out that if the tailings of cut turquoise were mixed with a binder/glue/resin, they could be formed into shapes and used as "cabs" to jewelry. The color was consistent, usually a dark turquoise hue, and, in to all intents and purposes, it WAS genuine turquoise!
CONDITION: Excellent with no problems I can spot. NOTE: The back of the bracelet is slightly different than the back of the necklace. I believe the bracelet may be a few years "newer" than the necklace - but the set still completely matches form the front.
METAL CONTENT: Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: A lot of the links are hallmarked STERLING.
SIZE: Necklace length is 14-5/8"; width is 1/2". Bracelet length is 7-5/16"; width is 1/2".
WEIGHT: Necklace weighs 26.9 grams. Bracelet weighs 14.2 grams.
FINAL COMMENTS: Ready to wear!
