Antique Victorian 14K Gold, Sterling Silver & Rose Cut Diamond Pin/Brooch
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1890 or so - perhaps earlier, perhaps later
ITEM: More than likely French in origin, here's a very simple Victorian era pin/brooch of ROSE GOLD featuring a pair of rose cut diamonds set in silver. The pin's design is akin to a small spray of florals - the diamond tops acting as the focal point. Covered gold closure to hold the pin in place.
CONDITION: Very nice with a patina of age. When found, the piece was COMPLETELY black so I gave a light polish. While the gold has come up, the sterling settings do show a touch of tarnish highlighting the diamonds.
METAL CONTENT: 14K Gold & Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: None, as is the norm with older pieces of Victorian jewelry; the French usually had hallmarks on only the card holding the item - if the surface of the item was too small for stamping. Gold has been gently acid tested for content - the silver used in the manufacture of this piece is the usual standard used in this design of jewelry.
SIZE: 2-3/4" long x 9/16" wide at the top.
WEIGHT: 3.9 grams
DIAMONDS: 2 small rose cut diamonds, very clear. They are prong set into the top - "best fit" so to speak as the edges are irregular and not completely round.
FINAL COMMENTS: Just a wonderful piece!
