Vintage 14K Gold & Hand Painted Portrait Set - Pendant/Pin/Brooch & Earrings
Welcome to ROBINS NEST MIDWEST! May I offer….
AGE: C.1950 or so
ITEM: Here's a lovely demi-parure of yellow gold featuring a celluloid and hand painted portrait of a lady - in this case, a most FAMOUS lady!
Adored by Ludwig I of Bavaria, Auguste Strobl (24 June 1807 - 22 January 1871) was a German beauty of the 19th century. The daughter of a royal chief accountant, it is unknown how she came to Ludwig's attention. Though he wrote poems to her and had her painted by the court painter Joseph Karl Stieler for his Gallery, it is possible she became his mistress - it certainly would explain Ludwig's devotion.
The demi-parure is composed of two pieces - a pair of earrings with true left/right portraits as well as a pin/brooch that can be worn as a pendant. The painting appears to be on celluloid and is a combination of lithograph and hand painted detailing. The earrings are for pierced ears and are simple Shepherd Hooks.
CONDITION: Excellent with no problems I can spot.
